Designer Nessa Walker works primarily in felt. Nessa starts each piece by deciding on colours and feelings, before laying out a large sheet of white pre-felt, which she then layers with wool fibre, threads, ribbon, wool strands, lace and fabric. She builds up the textures until satisfied, and then wets the felt to consolidated them. Once the sheet is finished and dry, she cuts out the shapes for her brooches, jewellery or pictures and adds detail and more texture using a mixture of needle felting, embroidery and seed beads.
Each piece is therefore a combination of semi-planned techniques and happy coincidences, depending on where the colours lead - making each piece an individual. She also produces a range of hand-painted wooden bead earrings on sterling silver hooks.
